I worked at a lighthouse, and it was basically me starring in a one-man show called ‘Man vs. Nature: The Wettening.’ The light was my co-star, flickering like it was flirting with burnout, while I played the fool running up spiral stairs with a wrench and a dream. The fog was so thick I could’ve spooned it into a bowl and called it soup. I yelled at the sea like it owed me money, but all I got back was salt in my face. This shirt’s my diploma from the school of hard knocks and harder winds. Pass the rum—I earned it.
